Encounter God @ Battlecry

We are coming up on our third year of hosting Ron Luce and Battlecry to the New York metro area. I can’t think of a better time to be involved with such an event that goes beyond these two days in April and that has a lasting change in the lives of our youth and leaders that attend. Battlecry definitely has been the catalyst that has launched our youth ministry to another level in reaching our generation with boldness in presenting the Gospel with a relevant message and with a spirit of excellence. We have seen the fire of God that these youth receive during those two days continue to burn just as Jeremiah said in chapter 20:9, “But His word was in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones.”

It’s not a hype, it’s not a myth, and it’s not a one time deal. It’s when you have such an encounter with the presence of God and you see thousands around you having the same encounter, something happens inside you that no one can talk you out of. This is what this generation of teenagers need! They can’t take church as normal any longer; they need the true authentic presence of God that is able to break every addiction or stronghold in their lives. This is what this weekend on April 16th & 17th is all about. It’s about seeing your youth getting free, starting a fire in your youth ministry, sharing with others about the life change they experienced and us affecting a culture, not a culture affecting us.

It doesn’t matter if you have 5 youth in your youth group, bring the five and watch God multiply it. I remember that ten years ago my wife and I had just started out in youth ministry and we were so excited to attend our first Acquire the Fire weekend in Muncie, Indiana with 7 youth and 3 leaders. All I can remember is walking into that arena and seeing 4,000 teenagers and thought this is all the youth in the United States that are serving Jesus. Then I remembered this man by the name of Ron Luce who came out on the stage sharing the message and I thought to myself, one day I could be a part of something this big and one day meet this man and visionary who had so much passion and dreams of reaching young people, it would be awesome. Can I tell you that God always does exceedingly, abundantly; above all you can ask or think, because everything I dreamed of that day has come to pass. I’m so honored to be a part of the NYC Battlecry Steering Committee and to work with some of the most amazing youth pastors in the region and to see that God took those ten in the beginning of our ministry and has multiplied it to over 300 young people attending this year. Be faithful over the few and God will make you a ruler over many!
