Taking the Church to the City
City Summer Outreach with NYC Church
New York City Church is thriving and growing! In October 2009 they moved into the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School Auditorium, located at 120 W. 46th St., where they hold services every Sunday at 11am. NYCC’s Sunday experience is full of contemporary worship, testimonies, and relevant life-changing preaching, with children’s ministry for ages 2-12. NYCC is moving full steam ahead with their summer theme of GO! They are taking the Luke 14:23 and Matthew 28:18-20 mandates literally and are using summer Sunday nights to take church to the city with their City Summer Outreach. It is a strategic move to go into the heart of the city with the love of God and the Gospel message of salvation.
As New York City Church has grown, so has their love for people and their burden to see lives changed and restored by the power of the Holy Spirit. NYCC’s City Summer Outreach will go where New Yorker’s live life in the summer – the parks and city streets! Over the next four months they will be prayer walking, praying with people, sharing the gospel, and using their giftings in the creative arts on the street – worship, dance, and mime. People need to see the Church as real and relevant – a Church for today – a place to come and connect, to meet other people who are passionate about Whom they serve. God is alive and so is His Church! We are His hands and feet, His voice bringing love and encouragement to the people He gave His life for. For such a time as this Christians will use their giftings and talents to show the city that being a Christian and serving God is the coolest and most relevant way to give your life to something bigger than yourself.
New York City Church is also excited to be hosting the internationally known Eternity Production, July 28-August 1. Eternity is a dramatic stage production that communicates the truth of the Gospel to this generation by using the gifts, talents, and resources found within the local church. This original dramatic stage production was written and produced by Ed Schefter, now senior pastor of New York City Church. Over the past 14 years Eternity has been performed in over 50 churches in nine countries. Approximately 2.8 million people have seen a live performance and this has resulted in 300,000 documen- ted decisions for Christ. A Christian cast from several city-area local churches has been assembled and we are pursuing salvation for our city! For free tickets call 212-581-6922.
Dr. Frank Damazio of City Bible Church in Portland OR says, “We live in a very visual culture and drama captures, penetrates and moves even the hardest case towards the Gospel. The Eternity Production has been and is a powerful tool for modern day evangelism. It is a simple, effective, and it works. We see thousands of people confess Christ, and our church is revitalized in its love and commitment to win the lost. I highly recommend Eternity to any church of any size, and I endorse Eternity world-wide.”
The Church of the Revelation in the Bronx hosted the Eternity Production twice in April and July 2009. At the end of the run Pastor Tim Adour said, “Nothing motivates a congregation like seeing hundreds of people coming to Christ. Over 1,200 people responded to Christ during both runs of the production. The excitement in our church is beyond expression!”
Bishop Joseph Garlington Sr. of Covenant Church in Pittsburgh PA says, “The production Eternity is a dynamic tool: releasing God to move in the church and local community. I highly recommend this ministry.”
